PRIME School of Music Closes
Board to Reorganize to Support Tucson Non-Profits
(Tucson, AZ) Citing numerous fund raising challenges in 2005, the Board of Directors of the PRIME School of Music has voted to close its doors as of December 31, 2005 and cease operations at its 3434 East Broadway location.
The PRIME School, founded in 2001 and serving up to 350 students per year in its vocal and instrumental programs, had as its original mission bringing the advantages of music education to the underserved youth of Tucson through scholarship programs. While the programs were widely accepted, the total yearly budget of $500,000 a year was more than the community could support with fund raising.
The Board voted on November 30th to sell the building at 3434 East Broadway as well as the musical instruments and other equipment at that location. Further, the Board voted to evolve as a new entity that would offer funding towards scholarships for disadvantaged youth in music programs already in existence in Tucson.
“There are many high quality and established music programs in Tucson serving underserved youth,” stated Board President, Elaine Walsh. “Our objective is to continue to fund raise in order to support selected programs in a substantial way. We are currently evaluating programs to support in 2006. We will also be announcing how we will structure our new scholarship program as that is determined. We are also exploring ways to support the Music Together™ program for pre-schoolers and toddlers. Our immediate need is for a no-cost location for that program to continue.”

Thank you, Tucson, for your support!”
